THE PUPILS OF GYMNASIA No2 ARE SPEAKING ABOUT THEIR RELATIVES:
Katya Krastelyova (Form 3 A):
-My great-grandfather Ivan Andreyevich Vasilevich was born on the 9th of October 1924 in the village of Volotye in Slutsk district. He was the eldest child in his family and had to help his parents about the house.
When the fascists attacked our country, my great-grandfather Ivan was 17 years old. At that time partisan detachments began forming in the woods of Belarus. One of them was located near the village, and my great-grandfather brought there food and clothes collected by the villagers and fulfilled some tasks, getting information for the partisans. In 1942 the fascists captured young boys and girls in the village and sent them to Germany to work on the plant. In 1945 the Soviet army liberated them and till 1947 my great-grandfather served in the army. Now he is 86. Every weekend we visit him in his village. I want him to be healthy and live with us for many years.
Maxim Kisel (Form 3 G):
-My great-grandfather’s name was Nikolai Tikhonovich Kvasha. He was born in 1923. He studied at school for 4 years and then worked on the collective farm "Leninski Shlyakh”. He was 18 when he joined the army. He served in the infantry. When he fought on the banks of the river Oder, he was wounded in his feet. He was taken to the hospital. He was so badly wounded that the doctor wanted to cut his leg off. Instead, his big toe was cut off. After 6 months he returned home. My great-grandfather was awarded several medals: For military merits, For bravery, For seizure of Konigsberg. After the war he headed a field brigade, looked after horses, pastured the cattle. He retired in 1983. My great-grandfather died in 1996.
Vladimir Trukhan (Form 3 A):
- My grandfather Nikolai Ivanovich was born in the village of Stankov in Rogachov district. He took part in the battle on the Dnieper. A lot of Soviet soldiers died in combat there. Fortunately, my Granddad survived. Igor Bushilo (Form 6 V):
-My great-grandfather’s name is Nikolai Markovich. Before the Great Patriotic war he lived in the village of Puzichi in Brest region (now it’s in Soligorsk district). When fascists came, they captured all the villagers and burnt them alive. My Granddad managed to escape but he lost all his relatives. Unfortunately, he was also captured and made to chase the cattle as far as Poland. Otherwise, he could be shot. By chance, he again managed to escape. He joined the army and served on the battle fields of Ukraine. He was wounded near Ternopol and got to the hospital. Then he fought on the territory of Latvia and crossed it from east to west. Once the young soldiers rushed into the waves of the Baltic sea – and the shooting began. All of them – except my Granddad – were killed!.. He returned to his unit and liberated Poland. In Germany he was again wounded in his leg. In the hospital he learnt about the end of the war. For the liberation of Ukraine, Latvia, Poland and Germany he was awarded a lot of medals. I’m proud of him!
